RADIO FREE WISCONSIN: John A. Scocos fled to a suburban tract house attached to a golf course several months ago. Retreating ahead of news media reports about neglect and horrible conditions at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King. Scocos is still on the state payroll, although he resigned in November. Scott Skippy Walker would be a bigger fool than he already is if he appoints anyone of these insider candidates Dave Kurtz, Tom Rhatican (both of Rhatican’s kids were employed at WDVA, so no nepotism there), Kathy Marschman (she’s been around the GOP block), slippery Dan Buttery and Ken Grant to replace Scocos. It would just be more of the same mismanagement at the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs. Whoever Walker picks to replace Scocos you can bet that veterans are screwed. WDVA will continue to be a third-rate state agency as long as it employs third-rate administrators. WDVA is hardwired for inefficiency and wasteful spending with overpaid and underworked administrators “earning” a six figure salary for complacency and smugness. If the same administrators had to find jobs in the private sector they’d earn a fraction of what the state pays them now. Lacking motivation they receive a six-figure income simply for showing up and proficiency in department-media cover-ups. Scocos is supposed to be gone Jan. 7. Outsider candidates William Bissonette, Jamie Guttenberg, Christopher J. Banks and Matthew O. Foley have also applied for the secretary’s position.
